There were jingle bells in the Close, on Tuesday as Santa came calling. His sleigh was being towed by a car... and the parking situation being crazy as ever, the poor driver had to reverse really slowly to get back to the main road.
On Wednesday, the Shed Project had their Christmas Mardle. A dozen or so turned up, and it was great for the wives to actually meet. Bob was thrilled that everything has come together so well, and the Shed really is achieving good things.
l decided that the macrame plant holder I made18 months ago should be dismantled. It was not fit for purpose [the pot fell out in the slightest breeze] So Wednesday evening I watched the Repair Shop, then Shetland, whilst untying all those knots
Eventually I ended up with the string and beads I needed, Bob kindly wound the lengths into tidy balls of yarn.
I may post tree pictures next week.
I don't really think macrame is my craft of choice!
Macrame was a big thing in 1970s... I remember my mother in law teaching me how to make a pot plant holder.... have fun with your tree making!
ReplyDeleteAt least my string is green
DeleteI'm sure your macrame trees will be lovely. I remember enjoying doing macrame in the 1970s and even the '80s. Haven't done any, recently.

DeleteI'm very intrigued by Macrame! I hope this ends up being a satisfying project for you! We almost went for a house in a close...it also had a SCHOOL in the close so we got the impression parking might have been an issue so didn't go for it (plus bathroom was titchy!) Kx
ReplyDeleteNever buy in a close with a school at the end. Disastrous 😂
DeleteI did a Hobbycraft on line course on macrame, including those trees, a couple of years ago. And it's not my craft either.
ReplyDeleteIt does go in and out of fashion
DeleteI tried macrame once in the 70's total disaster but I like the look of the trees, I am sure you will do a great job. We have the Rotary coming round tonight with Santa and his sleigh and attendant Elves! We live in a close and every year they have to reverse but all done with good humour and lots of "Ho, ho, ho's". Regards Sue H
ReplyDeleteI misread that as" his attendant, Elvis"
DeleteThat looks such a lovely get together and you are right that it’s good to meet the other halves! I am now confined to barracks with a stinking cold and cough. Norrie thinks I have been doing too many things in the last couple of weeks and I suspect he is right. I spent Tuesday morning in a room that was so cold that we kept our coats on so I think that’s when the cold started. Lovely makes in your Etsy shop-hope they sell as lovely little Christmas gifts. ReplyDeleteLook after yourself. There are loads of bugs going around - and when we get overtired and run down, we are more vulnerable
DeleteI love that you and Bob have many opportunities to get together with other like-minded people!

DeleteIf macrame doesn't go well you can make a very similar looking tree decoration by knitting a wide short piece of knitting and then arranging it in the tree shape. Thread through the middle and add beads and a tassel. I used about 70 stitches and knitted 4 or 5 rows using DK.
ReplyDeleteJane
That's a neat suggestion, thank you Jane. I might try that idea
DeleteI think this is how the macrame tree was made with a length of square knots making the ribbon and sewed as you describe it.
DeleteYou are clearly Marjorie, Macrame Marvel, if you are able to recognise and name the knots!
DeleteNever mind 'may' post photos ... we demand to see your lovely green macrame trees. 😄🎄
ReplyDelete🌲🎄🎄🎄😉
