I think these should be a pair of Scandinavian cartoon dogs - the Nordic equivalent of the Antipodean Bluey and Bingo. In fact Snöskyffel is the name of the cute red metal shoe horn from IKEA and Aglet is the correct English word for the sheath at the end of as shoelace, which stops it unravelling and makes it easier to thread through the holes.

I have been thinking about both recently, because summer approaches and I am wearing both my white plimsolls and my new trainers on warm dry days. I get frustrated if my laces come undone when I am out - finding somewhere to balance whilst I retie them is not always easy. I do not want to kneel on the path, there is never a convenient ledge or step when you want one, and I do not want to roll inelegantly into a heap on the pavement like a distressed hedgehog. I decided to try the 'no bow' system, turning the shoes into slip ons.[Ignore the fact that this video is for gents!]
But when I push my foot in, the back of the shoe rolls over. The shoehorn is brilliant at assisting my heel into place. The aglets are inside, invisible, and my feet are comfy. And my shoes have been converted into slipons. I am sure many of you knew the word aglet already - I have posted this video of the aglet song before...

I did know that word but not it's exactly meaning, just that it was shoe associated! Good solution!
ReplyDeleteI hate it when my laces come untied
DeleteI have really high arches so need to loosen my laces to get the shoes on and off with the aid of a long handled shoe horn. Norrie now wears the step in ones but sadly I can’t. Glad you can do the laces under the tongue-that makes you much cooler-just ask Rosie. Sorry for lack of comments as we were away. Catriona
ReplyDeleteI am told that this is Very Cool!!
DeleteAglet is one of those words that you have to keep repeating, somehow it's kind of silly!
ReplyDeleteIt is, like aardvark or grommet!
DeleteWouldn't they still come untied with the last method of tucking them under the flap? I thin I would prefer to go with knotting the finished bow to secure it. But I don't fancy any velcro alternative!
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly they stay secure. Velcro in shoes is horrid, the hooky side picks up so much fluff!
ReplyDeleteI've had to buy trail trainers (foot problem) and the Podiatrist has given me some special arched inners. I'm double knotting the laces, which is working for now. Xx
ReplyDeleteI hope this makes your feet more comfortable, and walking easier
DeleteBut, don't you feel the knot between top of your foot and the shoe? I have a pair of slip on shoes, but, I usually wear the laced up shoes as they are better for my feet.
ReplyDeleteI push it to the side and it seems to work OK. I know many people prefer to wear lace ups
DeleteYou can get silicone thingies that act as shoe ties. I used them for bear at one point when he was little and driving me nuts.
ReplyDeleteI saw some of those in a charity shop recently.
DeleteJust catching up as I’ve been on holiday so not sure if you will see this post. You can get sets of bars that look like treasury tags, they are stretchy so the shoes slip on. Fiddly to install but useful.
