I have just been to our biennial Connexion Weekend at King’s Park Conference Centre in Northampton. It was amazing, and encouraging, and so good to be among friends. There were around 70 of us there. The Centre is well equipped, all guest rooms are ensuite and twin bedded, and a large lounge with comfy chairs and facilities for making hot drinks whenever you want. Warm and dry on a wet and windy weekend.
We listened to Nigel Wright and his wife Judy, as they spoke about Living The Jesus Way, whilst Doug and Rosemarie Hollidge provided pastoral support.
We had lots of fun too – with different workshops [jewellery making, scrapbooking, origami, book reviews, knit and crochet, hand massage…]
There was a riotous Saturday night programme, with Gilli on her unicycle, Nigel and Doug ‘blind-tasting’ slices of quiche...and everything washed down with alcohol free cocktails.
At other times, people shared their stories – of babies and bereavement, health and recovery, changing careers [eg Chrissie, who is now running her own cake business], moving churches, finding retirement homes
And under the expert leadership of Christina and Val we thought about Christ being the vine, and we are the branches bearing fruit for him.
The singing and worship times were really uplifting, the chats over coffee among friends were a real time of encouragement
Huge thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make the weekend so good.
Apologies to anyone who was in adjacent rooms to Sylvia and myself. Yes it was us two giggling like naughty schoolgirls when she fell out of her bed at midnight.
Let nobody ever accuse Baptist clergy spouses of being boring!
It sounds a very uplifting weekend.....though not sure if falling out of bed would come into that category!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful weekend! I'm not much for retreats, but I might have actually enjoyed this one.
