The Lord Provides

This is an official Government chart of fluctuations in house prices in the UK from Jan 2005 to December 2011 which I found this week . House prices since then have continued to rise. Notice particularly that low pint in the first quarter of 2009.

We never really bothered to follow this index, believing we would never be in a position to purchase a property, and as far as we knew, prices were riding steadily.

The thing I still cannot get over is the fact that in January 2009 Bob woke up one morning and said “I believe we should try and buy a property for our retirement”. I am afraid that I laughed at him – such a thing was impossible. Like Sarah, in Genesis 18, I laughed too soon.

We got Cornerstones when the prices were at the lowest point. Just a few months later, prices would have risen, and my income from Supply Teaching would have fallen [due to the increase in Academies and other changes brought in by dear Mr Gove]

We would definitely not have qualified for a mortgage now. As far as I am concerned, our bungalow is a real Godsend, and I am grateful that Bob listened to the Divine Voice prompting him to take the step of faith and buy the property when we did. Proving the truth of Proverbs 3

Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. Remember the Lord in everything you do, and he will show you the right way.

  2. As someone at a wholly different stage in the house moving business, I shall claim this encouragement wholeheartedly!

  5. He certainly does. Our previous vicar and his family gained their house purely because God opened the doors. X

  6. We bought our house in the UK when prices were quite low, enabling us to sell it at a much higher price, so we could move to France. When I suggested to a Christian friend of ours that this was perhaps God-led, he was very scathing, saying "Yes, God really does act as a property manager" - or something like that. I'm not sure quite what I believe TBH. But certainly it sees like God prompted Bob - and he responded whole heartedly!

  7. You know, Angela, I really needed to hear this, and I thank you for sharing this info. We also are in ministry/pastoral work, and don't expect ever to have enough $$ to buy a home. I often wonder where in the world we will live when we can no longer work. But God does provide, and He prompted your hubby to realize it was the perfect time. That's reassuring.

    1. My recent weekend away with other Pastors' Spouses was FULL of amazing stories like ours. God is faithful - be encouraged - I believe He will sort it for you too, in His good time.
