Do you know this wonderful little programme on CBeebies? My grandchildren watch it - it is narrated by Alexander Armstrong. Duggee is a friendly dog who runs the Squirrel Club, and the animals in it work for badges. It is a cheery, encouraging little show, and when affection is needed, it is time for a Duggee Hug. George up in Manchester enjoys watching Pointless with his parents, because he recognises AA's voice!
I thought about this show yesterday. I was feeling SO hot [who wasn't?] and I cannot find, anywhere, my very lightweight fine white cotton nightie. It was bought for a hospital visit years ago and it is my coolest item of nightwear. I suspect it is packed away, somehow folded inside another garment, as it is so fine, and has minimal volume. I'm not keen to buy another one [are there any left in the shops, anyway?] This popped up on my feed...
It is from the company Toast, and described as a cotton dhuggie. I did not know this word, and try as I might, I can only find it as a word for nightdress on the toast website. [apart from one link which said duggy was street slang for 'cool'] Did they make it up? Is it a portmanteau word for Duggee Hug? I have no idea. I am certainly not paying £99. Perhaps I should brave the loft ladder and go up to the Stash [it is boiling in the roof space] Maybe I can find a length of fine cotton.
PS thanks for all the fabulous sunhat stories yesterday - clearly a selection of scarves and pins, and a hot-glue gun, are the way forward!
Today we have rain! The nights will be cooler now I think.
ReplyDeleteSo pleased for you - maybe the rain will move across from Cornwall to East Anglia later
DeleteI hope you find your cotton nightdress or are able to sew yourself one before the heatwave ends!
ReplyDeleteme too!
DeleteGood morning Angela, Much cooler here today thank goodness. We really like Alexander Armstrong, very versatile and he has a pleasant voice speaking and singing. That is so sweet your grandson recognized his voice in Pointless. Isn't it annoying when you can't find something and yet you know it must be somewhere. I recently found a tapestry work in progress that I started years (literally) ago rolled up in a suitcase I must have put it in the case when we moved six years ago! I wish I could say I restarted sewing but I didn't, maybe I will never finish it. Good luck on finding your fine cotton nightdress. Regards SueH
ReplyDeleteI turned my old tapestries into cushion covers - I didn't want them hanging on the wall, but couldn't bear to throw away hours of stitching!
DeleteAA also has the mid morning slot on Classic FM. He's an ex music scholar, and is really good at passing on musical knowledge in a light-hearted way.
ReplyDeleteYou're right about AA we enjoy his slot on Classic FM too. He's also a good actor [he played Miss Marple's nephew in a couple of the TV Agatha Christie adaptations]
DeleteI loved watching this programme with my Grand-daughter and made a couple of the badges out of cardboard and patterned paper (I'm not a sewer).
ReplyDeleteOh that's clever! Have you looked at the CBeebies/Hey Duggee website, there are other craft ideas there. The Squirrel Club should have a "Good Grandma" Badge!!
DeleteIf it took me a year after our last move to find a pair of wellingtons ... it will most likely take you a lot longer to find something so light and small.
ReplyDeleteI am totally out of touch with children's television these days but Hey Duggee sounds lovely.
HD is really good, well written
DeleteI hope you find your nightie and that the weather cools down. If anyone had told me decades ago that Britain would one day reach 40°C I would have laughed. We are fortunate, it hasn't been above 35°C, but out west it is hotter in parts.
ReplyDeleteFewer people are denying the issue of Climate Change now
DeleteI hope you find the nightie. I got a lovely white cotton one in the charity shop 2 years ago and it is the best!
