A Quick Trim, And A Rapid Read

On Thursday I went into Norwich with Bob - he did his stint at the Hospice and I had a haircut and also spent time in the Library.
I decided that I was fed up with my hair in the hot weather, and it would be much cooler to have it trimmed. It is just 4 months since the last cut - and I went back to Supercuts. Very pleased with the result.
I sat in the Library and re-read Charlotte's Web from cover to cover in under an hour. Rosie has been listening to it on an audio book, and I wanted to make sure I knew enough of the details in case she wants to chat about it with me.
It is a lovely story but leaves me feeking rather emotional at the end. [up there with The Railway Children, and The Selfish Giant - I find the last chapters hard to read aloud to children!]
I also found one of Mike Ripley's Campion mysteries. I didn't know that he'd written more stories featuring Margery Allingham's sleuth until recently [thank you Sue]  but the other week I came across the 1989 TV series based on her original works, featuring Peter Davison, so have been revisiting the stories [UKTV Play]
Looking forward to reading this - preferably lounging in a deckchair with a glass of iced tea!
I hope July is a little less fraught than June. All the illness in the Close, lots of sewing tasks, and the recovery from the accident and dental stuff...it just seemed to take up a lot of the time I'd set aside for painting.

We hope to meet up with friends and family this month, and have a few days in London. I've also been dropping very unsubtle hints about a trip to the Cinema to see the fional Indiana Jones film.
The bedroom redecoration plans are still on hold!
Do you have plans for this month?

  3. Your hair looks lovely, and you'd never even guess that you'd fallen not so long ago!
We have a very busy two months coming up, the dreadful artex ceiling in our bedroom is being plastered over and the walls plastered too. Before that's done we're having the old radiator removed and a new funky one fitted.
As soon as the plaster is dry, we'll be getting a fitted wardrobe company in to sort out our wardrobe problem, we're hoping to gain extra storage space. Oh, and the bedroom also needs a new carpet!
The dining room is stuffed to the gunwales with furniture, we bought a new extending dining table to save space, but that's been delivered five weeks early, and we've not been able to find a home for the old table and chairs yet. The previous dining suite is antique walnut, and although we don't want much, if anything, for it, we don't wish to see everything chopped up and scrapped. They're too beautiful for that! The old dining table is a tilt top, so the top has been removed and is leaning against a wall, propped up by the new table, the chairs are stacked in a corner, but the base of the table is enormous, very, very heavy, and on castors. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've clunked my toes on it so far, almost every time I pass it, I trip over the thing! It has to go, and soon!
We're having tall double gates made for the drive, they'll be fitted just in front of the kitchen door, which is at the side of the bungalow. This is to give us some privacy in the drive, hide the three wheelie bins etc.
Our back garden is stepped, but the retaining walls have no drainage, so the lawn and top part of the garden floods every winter, and most plants drown. The walls need replacing, with drainage fitted, and a gently sloping path and strong handrail will also be put in.
We're doing everything we can to 'age proof' this bungalow, but it's taking a long time to do it, and a fair bit of money too.
However, once it's done, nothing should need touching for a long time, which is a lovely thought!
I'm also dropping hints about seeing Indy's last outing too, but so far 'him indoors' hasn't heard me! X

    1. Oh that all sounds SO busy. But I do understand the complexities of downsizing from.house (full of work stuff and family) to bungalow (for the "Golden Years" as they're euphemistically called) Wardrobes are an issue if there aren't built in ones to start with. We went with IKEA Pax - but they are exactly 2cm too high, so Bob had to get out the power tools and trim every upright section! We were fortunate to have this place for 12 years as a holiday home before permanent residency so could do things gradually. Living among so many elderly people is certainly helping with spotting things that help to "age proof" the place. Grateful that there's already a walk-in shower in the bathroom. I wish you well with your ongoing projects. We've found Wilko Paint to be good quality at a fair price!!

  4. I love the comment about God laughing at our plans. June has flashed by for me and in some ways I don't feel there's much to show for it if you know what I mean.......... so deep breath and I think I'll ask God to plan July for me :-)
    Your haircut is great BTW.

    1. Some months seem so full and busy and flash by... And as you say, you wonder what there is to show for it. But I remember many years ago, complaining as I got into bed one night that I'd done none of the things on my to-do list. Bob reminded me that I'd spent the morning helping a friend, and the afternoon looking after my daughters schoolfriend. And those things were more important than housework!

  5. Haircut for me on Wednesday and I’ll have it chopped to a bob for summer. Norrie is about to start treatment for his other eye after the cataract removal and stent fitting of last November. Macular oedema has been spotted so a series of injections will be needed, cataract removed and stent fitted around October (ish) time. Catriona

  6. The new haircut suits you. I can't believe it has been four months since your last one! You hair looks darker than the profile photo.
I can just about go 6 weeks between haircuts before my hair looks just horrid and flicks up at the back. JanF

    1. It does seem to depend on the lighting! Some days it looks much greyer than others. I'm pleased with the cut though

  7. The Indiana Jons film has been in our cinemas since the day before yesterday and I'm already looking forward to seeing it with my husband - maybe my son will come along too :-))) .
In the run-up I looked at all the parts again, the first three are really great, I wasn't so happy with part 4...
I wish you a relaxed July with a lot of joy in summer and one or the other nice handicrafts... I will cut two summer tops in the next few days and sew them comfortably.
Happy greetings to you from Viola
    p.s. nice haircut :-)))

  9. The haircut is very smart and fresh in your summer weather. I loved the 'god making other plans' comment. I am looking for someone to go to that movie with also, just sort of finishes the set off, if you know what I mean and they loose a lot if you watch them on the Telly.I just checked the map Norwich is on the other side of the world, plus some! I would have liked a cuppa and scone after it with you also! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  11. The new haircut looks very nice and cool. It has been very hot and dry here as well. I hated Charlotte's Web the first time my mother read it to me, I was devastated by the ending. So she re-read it to me, but changed the ending to everyone living happily ever after, including Charlotte! I was ok with that. I can't recall how old I was. Maybe 5?
