I have never actually watched this programme, but I had four things I wanted to mention and tis title sums them up beautifully. I shall deal with them in reverse order [all those palindromes have made me think backwards.
pants, square, Bob, sponge
Firstly then, a pant-rant. What has happened to M&S briefs? They are so flimsy now, and wear out really quickly. I hgave some pre-covid ones I bought in Dorset which are fine, but a newer 3-pack is already giving up on me. My thumb went through the other days as I pulled them up. I found this pic on line of "visible mending" Life is too short to waste time and thread on such things - and you rarely hear me say that! I shall have to pull up mny bug girl knickers and buy some more.
Then square-Xmas-cards. We received 32 cards this year, and 24 of them were square. That's 75%. Square cards are taking over. This cheerful handprint angel is from Grandson George [not sure why the greeting is in Spanish!] You may have had one of these school-fund-raiser cards from children you know.
Bob is now going to the gym Mondays and Pilates on Tuesday, which appears to be helping strengthen his back and improving his mobility. If your GP recommends the gym for back problems, you can get a discount at the Leisure Centre [Useful tip picked up at the Men's Shed]
Here he is with all four children at Christmas, watching him as he breaks open a lump of clay containing "dino relics". George was happy with the result an eye, a skeleton, and a mini dino - but I didn't think we got a lot of 'bang for our buck'. The tiny wooden hammer in the kit was hopeless - Grandad had to provide a heavier one!
And finally- sponges - last year I mentioned I had changed over to Wettex - biodegradable, allegedly the ultimate ecofriendly dishcloths. Here is my review a year on. I have been washing and reusing three in rotation all year.
They have been excellent all rounders - dishwashing, general cleaning, windows etc. Only downside - coffee spills stain them badly. The pink one has just gone into holes and is being retired as a garden cloth for wiping flowerpots etc. And eventually will go to compost.
You can see by the new yellow one, they do shrink a little in use.
I rate these a ***** product
There you are pants, square, Bob, sponge - have a good Thursday!
I'm using the cotton squares I made for a blanket which I never finished. They are a little small but that's fine by me.
ReplyDeleteI've splurge on bamboo knickers from sock shop. Expensive compared to m and s but... well, you get what you pay for! 5* so far.
I looked at the Sloggi Website last night. They used to be plain and simple, but now there are too many styles and colours. And not inexpensive.
DeleteVery neatly wrapped up!
ReplyDelete👍
DeleteThank you for brightening my morning.
ReplyDeleteM&S clothes have dropped off a lot. They don't seem to have the classics anymore and nthe quality also seems to be fading. They seem to be concentrating on food.
As long as YOUR M&S knickers don't drop off, you'll be ok!!
DeleteI literally laughed out loud!
DeleteAnd I am not commenting on knackered knickers that may or may not have happened.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
DeleteI wear M&S knickers. I get a pack of six full briefs (old ladies knickers) in matching colours/designs. I last bought two packs 12 in all two years ago and they are still going strong, but maybe in 2 years the quality has diminished which is a shame as I find them comfortable and hard wearing. Regards Sue H
ReplyDeleteThe fabric in their recent briefs just seems thinner to me
DeleteTotal agreement in this house about the diminishing quality of M and S pants. Norrie has been complaining for ages about putting his finger through the top elastic in his trunks when he puts them on. I don’t like the fact that the newer styles for me are so thin and the elastic is quite scratchy. I’m going to look elsewhere to see if I can find anything better. And don’t start me on bras!!!! Catriona
ReplyDeleteI have just ordered some new briefs online. Will review them in a few weeks time!
DeleteI used to buy Sloggi before they got too expensive. Tesco aren't too bad. Quality reasonable for price. M&S really big knickers are exactly that and decent quality and price.
ReplyDeleteNever had Tesco knickers. The really big ones come up too high on me
DeleteI used to wear Sloggi, they were so comfortable, but too expensive now. I agree with you about the fabric, I'm sure it is thinner. I buy the 5 pack knickers from M/S, with a bit of lace round the waist. They last, but go out of shape quickly.
ReplyDeleteI have spent time on the Sloggi Sale page - and they only seem to have very small sizes there. Not paying full price
Deletewww.countrycollection.co.uk have a page of Sloggi with lots of sizes.
DeleteThank you for that link
DeleteI've found the same poor quality in the brand of undies I buy - the newer ones seem to develop holes after a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteThat is frustrating
DeleteI love your plays with words, very imaginative. I wear Sloggis usually buying 4 packs of three every two years. But even with these I have noticed a change in the quality, and one by one my thumbs are going through them. I usually have a few old pairs left when it's time to order new ones.
ReplyDeleteI bought some ICON "pee pants" from the USA in 2017. The advertising then said 'should last 4 years' The pants themselves have remained in verygood shape, elastic ok etc. But the absorbent gussets are ceasing to work, so they are no longer 'fit for purpose'. They now market them as "thinx" pants, but the cost is quite prohibitive [£20+ a pair]
DeleteI agree with you about M&S knicks, although this last lot bought in the sales at a £1 per pair seem ok. The ones before that were decidly flimsy and frayed badly. OH has just come back from having his RSV jab, the nurse told him its very important to have it, lots of cases in hospital apparently, unfortunately I don't fall into the age range yet! Xx
ReplyDeleteI'll be able to get a shingles jab next time round
DeleteI buy panties from T J Maxx ( TK Maxx in UK) and I sorted everything a few months ago. I had 28 pairs, one was thrown out as the elastic in the waist had disintegrated. Now I have a drawer (of drawers!) three lines of nine and I carefully wear them in order. Some are many years old but still O.K. JanF
ReplyDeleteThat is very efficient!
DeleteI was in Norwich in November for the first time in seven years. I stocked up on new undies as I can’t find anything that fits as well in America. My M&S undies from years ago are still in decent condition, but I was quite disappointed with the quality of the new ones! The fabric is not as good as others have mentioned, and the cut is just slightly different as well.
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting that you have noticed the difference. In years gone by, all M&S pants were made in Britain
DeleteI think there is certainly something wrong with my M&S knickers. They seem to have become quite a bit tighter over the years. Cannot think what has caused it. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh they've obviously shrunk in the wash 🤣🤣🤣
DeleteI can't comment on UK knickers, but I have noticed that the few cards which made it from England through our postal strike are all square. It must be a side effect of Brexit, I guess. Now if I can just figure out what I mean by that.....
ReplyDelete😉
DeleteI saw a brilliant post on Insta from lovely creative mum @sibster who made their own homemade excavation set and it looked super cool! I'll forward to you. X
ReplyDeleteThankyou Kezzie, I have forwarded this brilliant link to my daughters. It does look cool
DeleteIlona recommended wearing boys underpants which were cheaper and better quality than the flimsy ones sold for women.
ReplyDeleteSainsbury’s Tu are reasonable quality. I buy them when they have 25% off all clothing.
There is nothing now to match the quality of the Cherub school knickers we wore in the sixties.
I remember Ilona recommending boys pants years ago. My school knickers were bottle green heavy knitted cotton fabric. And they itched 'sumfin chronic' !!
