I rarely post twice in a day - but this is good news! Robert Jenrick, the Secretary of State has stepped in and issued a Holding Direction to Tower Hamlets Council while he considers what to do about the Whitechapel Bell Foundry.
This is progress, but we still have a long way to go. Please take a moment to read what the Gentle Author says here, and send a supportive email if you can. Thankyou

I watched Digging for Britain last night and one of the 'digs' was in Whitechapel where some excavation work by builders who were going to build student accommodation has uncovered a theatre, probably from the times of Dickens. The archaeologists found lots of clay pipes and broken pieces of beer jugs and therefore surmised that some pretty bawdy goings-on had occurred there!All-in-all, Whitechapel appears to be an area of significant historical value and hopefully, the bell foundry can be saved from its ultimate demise into a 'boutique hotel'.
ReplyDeleteOoh! I shall have to find that programme on catch-up. Whitechapel is indeed an area of significant historical value. Thanks for telling me about the programme.
