Harvest Home
Today is Harvest Thanksgiving at church. Here in Norfolk, we have watched the combines out in the fields, and are perhaps more aware of the seasons than some city dwellers. We will be thanking God for his goodness, and all his love. After the service we are having a special lunch. And we are collecting tins, packets and toiletries for the local foodbank, and monetary donations for work in poverty stricken parts of Bangladesh, where floods have destroyed crops, and life is very difficult.

Glad the churches collect dried and tinned goods for the local food bank-our nearest church has a list of items the food bank needs and you can hand in your contributions even if you don’t attend. It’s a lovely autumn morning today with the promise of warmer days ahead. Catriona

DeleteI hope that it's a lovely service and that lots of lovely donations are brought in for the foodbank, and for Bangladesh. It's awful to see how things are there isn't it. It puts our moaning about too much rain into perspective.

DeleteI love that hymn, which I remember from my childhood. "All good gifts around us are sent from heaven above" just as we read in James 1 v 17 - "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change."

No, not a duplicate (comments are proving very difficult lately aren't they?) Your Thanksgiving is a national event, here people/churches/schools mark harvest thanksgiving on any date which suits , usually September

Over 100kg of food delivered to the Foodbank
DeleteThe collection trolley at an M&S in Edinburgh that I visited on Saturday was crammed full for their local foodbank. The one at Aldi yesterday in my local area was very sparse. My youngest drove the combine at his work this year again. It's a mighty piece of equipment!Lots of early mornings and late nights.
