Did you know that today marks the start of the "Love Canned Food Festival"? Me neither - I only picked this information up yesterday. I did know that canned foods have massively increased in popularity in recent months - firstly with people preparing "Brexit Boxes" and then with "Pandemic Panic Purchasing" [how journalists love their alliterations] Many of us who grew up with parents & grans who'd lived through WW2 have always had a fondness for things-in-tins. And thrifty cooks like Jack Monroe have helped bring those ideas up to date [I continue to enjoy her excellent book purchased a year ago]
But "Love Canned Food" has been around for some time now - around 3 years, in fact - and they're attempting to pick up more followers in the next few days, with a dedicated instagram page, and 'cookalongs' and more.
We are fans of tinned food. Apart from the obvious tomaotes or baked beans, we love a sardine salad with tinned chick peas or sweetcorn added, followed by a tinned peach upside down cake!
ReplyDeleteAnd life without tinned mushy peas is unthinkable!
I agree with all the above... Except your final sentence
DeleteAfter reading those last few words methinks it's not only journalists who favour alliteration!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't noticed till you pointed it out
DeleteAng, how did you not? You are the QUEEN of alliteration! It's the primary school teacher in you!
DeleteI draw the line at tinned haggis!!
ReplyDeleteYou are not alone there!
Deletecant say i stocked up on chick peas but is it possible to have to many butter beans? A cupboard devoid of tinned sardines and peaches would just be abnormal ..lol i have a secret tin of beansprouts awaiting testing , never tried the tinned variety so im hoping their good enough for a decent stir fry
ReplyDeleteLet us know how how the beansprouts work out. I've looked at the cans in store but never bought any
ReplyDeleteI admit to pandemic panic pantry-item purchases! LOL. No sardines, but, plenty of mackerel, coconut milk, and, yes, chick peas! :)
ReplyDeleteLife without baked beans would be unthinkable! Tinned pineapple is one of my staff room staples to make me eat more fruit! Also Coconut milk would not be accessible otherwise and tuna and sweet corn are also constant residents in our cupboards!
