Half The World’s Food Is Wasted

Lord forgive us for our careless, selfish use of the resources you have given us. Reports like this make me weep when I think of all those who will go to sleep hungry tonight.

  1. Here in Africa we have the added scourge of HIV which in essence has removed an entire population of mothers and fathers, children are being brought up by family members or grandparents, poor nutrition has not helped, yes Lord forgive us for closing our eyes to the suffering around us and help us to be vessels of your Grace.

  3. I'm shocked by this as well, but I am also outraged by a report on Look East this morning that Peterborough council intend to compulsory purchase acres of prime agricultural land in order to have huge rafts of solar panels put up. The poor farmer was not happy, and quite right too - he so clearly pointed out that the flipping panels had lots of rooftops on which they could be positioned, and every acre they took out of food production was an acre of the world less to feed the world. He pointed out that we are a net importer of food as a nation and can't really afford to be reducing that any further by schemes like this.

  7. Amen. We are so rich and so very wasteful.

'If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?'

    God help us.

  8. It's horrifying and bemusing but hopefully this report is part of the turning of the tide. I've heard that rules have recently been relaxed which means that European supermarkets now stock 'odd' shaped veg again for example - are we seeing the refusal to accept this nonsense at a commercial level, now, as well as an individual one? I pray so.
