Do You Love Someone Enough...

...to give them your last Rolo?

Do you recall that advert?
We've had a busy time in Essex. Not least because my aunt's neighbours have been doing building work, and we suspect that they have been working on their fireplace/chimney breast. And a few "visitors" have popped through the little hole below the gas fire on this side. The fire has not been in use for many years.
But when I was here a fortnight ago, we found evidence...Julian set up a lot of mousetraps (baited with peanut butter) and we caught two.
However I've just been given a top tip - the best bait is half a Rolo. A friend in Norfolk claims great success with this sweet method.
Let's hope this makes a difference. Since implementing this sweet idea we have caught half a dozen in 3 days.
What do you put on your mousetraps??

  2. We have always used chocolate. There seems to be something that they cannot resist xx

  3. We used jam. Used to relocate the mice to the Forest Preserve. They began coming into our garage in IL when we stored birdseed there!

    1. It does seem they have a sweet tooth. Rolos, chocolate, jam ...

  4. When we were house hunting years ago we were show around an empty house. I opened the oven door - and screamed. A little mouse was looking at me. The pilot light was on and so it was cosy there. Our realtor was so embarrassed!

    1. Oh Jan, how awful. Most houses here have the power switched off if they are empty.( This house had been repossessed, and they had turned off the water supply too. ) I couldn't consider a house if I'd encountered a rodent at the viewing

  5. We use peanut butter. I wouldn't dream of indulging a mouse with half a Rolo! The peanut butter works well for us but only in a light grey trap called "The Better Mousetrap". I have two other black plastic traps but have never caught a mouse in either of them. (No, I am not going to waste a Rolo on them to see if it helps). The "BM" seems to be the one that never fails, and it seems to be an instant kill. I've bought two more of them and the black ones that the mice don't like are going out!

  6. There are lots of traps around. As a child I was terrified of the ones called "Little Nipper" I was sure if I got near them, I'd end up with a broken finger!
