A Bittersweet Sunday

Last year I was so very conscious that Auntie Peggy would not receive a card from Gillian [she'd kept dozens of such cards down the years, with Gill's special handwritten messages of love inside] Of course, Julian sent his Nana a card, and did what he could to make the day special. I telephoned her.
But now Gill's gone, and Peggy's gone too, and I miss them both. I thank God for them, and for the way they both 'mothered' so many - not just in our family, but through work with children in Sunday School, Playgroup, Beavers etc.
Yesterday I was blown away to receive a gift from Julian, with "Happy AuntieMum Day" on the tag. How incredibly thoughtful of him

  1. Thinking of you on a bitter sweet day. Remembering with deep gratitude my own lovely mum, and those lovely ladies that we called"friendly aunties". Some were childless, but mothered us in a way that we will always remember. I hope your day is filled with loving things. Love Isabel

    1. Yes, I had "aunties" too - not relations but they were so kind, and many had no children of their own, so mothered us.

  4. Such a kind thing for Julian to send you a card. My aunt died in January, the day before her 94 birthday, it will be a tough day for her daughter today. Happy Mother's day to you.

  6. How thoughtful of Julian to think of you when he is grieving too. Today is a bitter sweet day as its been a year since my Dad died, he was 93. Mum died nearly 50 years ago so it was just him and me.

    1. Oh Gill, I am so sorry - this must be incredibly hard for you. To lose your Mum when you were so young, I imagine that strengthened the bond between you and your Dad. And now he is gone too. You're in my thoughts and prayers 💔🙏
