Drop Through The Letterbox

My Gardener's water saving kit arrived on Wednesday.
It contained a selection of items and info sheets.
Thanks Anglian Water
  • A water mat, to place under a pot plant - supposed to keep it hydrated for a week, while you are on holiday
  • 2 packets of Swell gel [plus money off coupons]
  • A box of 'seed bombs' to plant wildflowers and bee friendly plants
  • Various leaflets
Sadly the 'water stick', which is supposed to alert you to your pot plant drying out, was missing. Never mind. It was all free.

I do not understand why people in Suffolk who get sewerage and drainage from Anglian Water [but their tapwater comes from Essex and Suffolk Water] do not qualify for this freebie.

Rosie and her cousins were at Mundesley beach this week. Sadly they were unable to paddle or swim due to the raw sewage in the water and on the tideline. I find this very disappointing.

  1. We used to put all our pot plants in the bath on a rubber mat with a large old bath towel on top. Then a few inches of water and this usually lasted for the two weeks we were away. I’ve used the water granules in my hanging baskets previously and they definitely help it to stay damp longer. Happy weekend. Catriona

  2. I wish SW Water did something similar, it should be nationwide.

  3. Glad you received the majority of your free items. Hm, "pot plant", like water "butt" might mean something else here! We'd say "potted plant" to refer to a plant that is grown in a pot, whether it is a pot plant or not! :D

  4. That is very sad! We went to Aldeburgh yesterday and whilst it was too cold to bathe, it might have been!

  5. Raw sewage at the beach? Not just disappointing, horrendous! It makes me angry that this still happens in some places.

  6. Yuk and very annoying about the sewage in the sea issue - not good enough is it?

  7. Ah yes, potted plant, not a pot plant here! So sad about the sewage at the beach. It really is inexcusable. We need to take better care of nature.

  8. I have memories from my childhood of seeing raw sewage in the sea (in Wales). The awful thing is that nobody seemed to think anything of it and we continued to play/swim. JanF

    1. But now people know the dangers, there is no excuse

  9. When I was nine, I went on a school trip on the 'Ferry Cross the Mersey' and we were all transfixed watching the raw sewage pour out of pipes straight into the river!
I lived on the other side of the Wirral, so we always played on the beach and swam in the river Dee, which we assumed was a lot cleaner!
The Mersey is a really clean river now though, we even saw a porpoise last year, and otters have taken up residence further upstream!
There's really no excuse for dumping raw sewage in rivers, tidal or otherwise. Maybe before the dangers were well known and publicised it was, but not now! X
