Oh Crumbs!

Bob found a flour mill in Northampton which would deliver bread flour in 16kg sacks at an extremely reasonable price. So he ordered one. It has meant that I can continue to bake our own loaves, usually on alternate days. I'm not sure that once the lockdown etc is over, I shall want to go back to buying bread in a supermarket! I have been experimenting, and have made rolls, burger buns and bagels, as well as ordinary loaves. However we do seem to eat more bread when it comes as a bagel or a bun...I made the rolls quite small as we were using those in our YouTube Communion service. Here is some of my recent output

  1. I find Supermarket bread is so squidgy after having home made (although mine is breadmaker it's still proper bread).
Your bread all looks delicious. Just realised I've never eaten a bagel!

    1. Fresh made ones taste nothing like shop bought (unless you can find a proper bagel bakery) When you and I finally get together to enjoy our coffee date, remind me to bring you some!

  2. Wow you have been busy. We've also bought a large 26kg bag of flour, shared with friends who Aldo love to make bread. Lots of sourdough here.

  3. Ooh, they look so good! Especially those bagels! You are making me hungry! I am still unable to buy yeast! No yeast to be had in any of the stores!

  4. Oh that looks so good! The only problem is - I live on my own and I'm supposed to be eating low carb - there is no way I'd be able to resist though.
I have finally found yeast and I am thinking of buying a bread machine before next winter so there will be some home made goodies in my future!

  5. Bread flour and flour in general is hard to find around here so we bought ours at Amazon. You do a wonderful job! Lovely breads!

    1. I'm trying not to do too much online shopping, but it was the only place I could find flour and yeast

  6. Where do you get your online yeast from Ang? We've not been able to get any since March and only had a pack as my sister sent me some. . then they couldn't get any!
I agree about Bagels. The real ones we used to get from the Shalom bakery in Gants Hill were utterly sublime and SO different from the shop ones!

  7. Wonderful! We have made some tentative steps into the world of bread-making, inspired by Jamie Oliver's no-fear videos. Mattman has become my main kneader and puncher. You have a much more varied output than us! And you do put me in mind of some juicy salmon, but that will have to wait for next week's grocery ordeal!
