Earth’s Vain Shadows Flee

Sadly NBC cut ‘Abide With me’ from their broadcast of the Olympics ceremony for viewers in the USA. I found this earlier clip of Emeli Sandé singing it though. What a voice!

!

Off to church soon for the last sermon in the Heaven and Hell Series.

last week’s tweet from Kirby Muxloe Free@kmfc123 said

This morning - a look at the surprising biblical material on eternal torment. And then Hell comes to an end next week! Join us 10:30

  1. We heard the entire piece, and saw the dance, in Canada. It was beautiful.

    1. Mr Bean AND Tim Berners Lee were BOTH at the same Oxford college as Bob when he was there! But sadly they didn't ask Bob to take part in the opening ceremony.

  4. Why did they cut it? I loved that ceremony. Didn't you think it was very Christian in the songs and the themes? More than you would have expected? The boys have now watched it three times. Jo deliberately had today's viewing early, to avoid the nightmares of the last two nights - that old Child Catcher! I was scared of him too after seeing Chitty Chitty for the first time!

  5. Apparently the Americans didn't realise it was a tribute to those who died in the London bombings [the day after it was announced we'd be hosting the Olympics]
I was pleased to have not only this hymn but also Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer.
And yes, Robert Helpmann was THE scariest man as the child catcher!

  6. Beautiful. I wish they hadn't left this out. My daughter and I were in London just one week before the tube bombing.
