Turning Moments

turning moments

Back in the old days of O level physics, I learned that Turning forces around a pivot are called ‘moments’ This last couple of weeks I have been learning more about turning.

This time it has been turning my knitting about the pivot that is the knitting needle, and through the use of partially knitted rows, I have mastered the art of ‘shaping by turning’. Using the Debbie Bliss library book mentioned here, and the lightweight Baby DK from my stash, I have made a baby cardigan

52 projects

It has taken me three weeks- slightly longer than the Project 52 challenge, which is supposed to be things done in a week – but I have been doing other projects alongside it.

Following the idea in the DB book, of using a dark ribbon and dark buttons to contrast the pale baby wool, I opted for a rich chocolate brown to go with the variegated yellow yarn. Here’s the end result.

It was interesting to knit, and by the end, I was getting the hang of the partial knit rows, and understanding how to count how many rows I had completed. The book is back in the Library!

  1. I agree the dark brown with the yellow works particularly well :)
