[Or even a combination of any of the above]

olney pancake race

I love Pancake Day - and Bob makes extremely good pancakes, so we shall be having some at lunchtime today [We are eating out with Adrian and Marion in the evening]

I do hope the weather is good for those racing with their frying pans in Olney [details here]

Tate and Lyle have an interesting website about pancakes [here] and a downloadable recipe book using both Golden Syrup and Black Treacle [here] They claim that "treacle gets its name from the
old French word triacle and the Latin theriaca, meaning an antidote to poison. In fact, for years people have believed Lyle's Black Treacle is beneficial in alleviating the symptoms of rheumatism and other complaints. Perhaps the natural goodness of the treacle fights the poison of the ailment"

Yeah, right!!

ihop We have visited the USA twice now, and both times, we have greatly enjoyed eating at The International House Of Pancakes. I think I would be as big as a house if I ate there regularly.

Happy Shrove Tuesday/Pancake Day everyone!

  1. This is the third post I've read on pancakes....I'm practically licking the screen now!
I like, dare I say, maple syrup on pancakes. Just as a treat you understand!

  2. I love pancakes but eating them today must be a very british thing as I haven't yet found a non-brit here who has heard of pancake day! Unfortunatly I don't think I will have time today to make any for myself, but if I do it will have to be the traditional lemon and sugar.

  3. definitely lemon and sugar - heavy on the lemon. Maple syrup is also great, but works better on fluffy american style pancakes.

  4. I've never had lemon and sugar on pancakes, but it sounds wonderful! How much lemon? How much sugar?

  5. Frances- L&S is quite a trad british topping. I have one teaspoonful sugar and about the same of lemon juice, per pancake. But ours tend to be thinner than your US IHOP ones, more like crepes!
