Mad As Hatters In Manchester

We spent a wonderful weekend up in Manchester with Steph and Gary. It was very exciting to actually go with Steph for her scan and see the baby on screen. We did loads of things, and I will post later. But it was definitely cold and damp. On Saturday Bob and I wore our crazy Scandi hats to keep our ears warm at Lightopia. Sunday we visited the People's History Museum - Bob had his leather hat on, but we all tried on the hats in the dressing up area.

We had hoped to visit the Hat Works Museum in Stockport, but it is currently closed. I'm sure you know that milliners formerly used mercury and the fumes affected their brains.
We have returned to Dorset and the next few days are going to be rather busy. I'm grateful for a few days of relaxed family time before we get onto the Christmas Roller Coaster.

  1. I'm glad you were able to have this happy, restful time. What is Lightopia?
I'm feeling a little anxious as we have The Special Visitors to school today. It couldn't, honestly, be coming at a worse time for me. I feel very unprepared & I have my least favourite class first (the mad class who made me cry last year) then a very arduous 3 hours of Year 3 recorder lessons.(plus choir & singing assembly). Prayers gratefully received! I JUST missed the 6:58 train here and gallingly, the next one wasn't till 7:21.23minutes I could have been at home for, drinking tea and eating breakfast. So annoying.

    1. You will be fine Kezzie. I'm sure that the awful class will be good today. And your pupils will enjoy their lessons. Outsiders always enjoy Singing Assembly. You're in my thoughts and prayers xx

  2. How wonderful that you were able to see the baby on the screen during the scan! Sounds like you had a lot of fun even though the weather was cold and damp. :)

    1. It's amazing! When I was pregnant with Steph I had one scan and a brief glimpse on screen. On Saturday she was given a disc of pictures to take home!

  3. Had a discussion with my lot about when scans were first available. I don't remember scans for Eldest or Son....1980 and 1981 but did have one for Youngest in 1987 - no picture to keep though.
    How things have changed.

    1. I had a scan for Liz [born 1982] but only because problems were suspected, after I had a bad fall. I don't think everyone at antenatal with me had one. I'm grateful to report that Liz was born perfectly healthy

  4. One of my husband's relations was a real mad hatter on his granny's side - she was a true Cockney too.
