In the Great Sort, I've unearthed, and emptied, three sets of IKEA Moppe Drawers. They're all around 25 years old. Over the years I've decorated the outsides in different ways. The 6 drawer set was covered with pages from an out of date Leicestershire A-Z map book. On of the 5 drawer units was decorated with "angels in art" after Christmas 1999, and was on my desk at school for two terms. The third set was covered in blue and white pages from a French Marie Claire Idées craft magazine. But they are all looking faded and tatty now. I think I may make them an autumn project and redecorate and repurpose them.
I saw a 6 drawer set stained olive green in a CS for £9 last week. They were not very attractive imho.
How would you refinish these if they were yours?
I think my most successful devo project was covering an empty cardboard box with snips cut from a sarah raven or maybe another plant catalogue. Looking atvthe flowers it must have been for spring bulbs.
ReplyDeleteI really did enjoy doing the Marie Claire drawers. The Angels have lasted better, I think because they were all from good quality Christmas cards (back in the day when we received hundreds each year!)
DeleteLike you, I have had sets of these drawers for years and donated them to a charity as part of an upcycling drive. I have painted them, decoupaged them, papered them with things like maps etc. I also glued “handles” made from buttons, scraps of wood. Once I fancied a change, they were sanded down and redone. They are/were a really robust item but not sure the current IKEA stuff is the same quality. Happy crafting! Catriona
ReplyDeleteThey don't make these sizes any more - and the one set they do make is around £20. I may redecorate one and donate the others...
DeleteI'd choose old sheet music or maps or maybe something floral! Kx
ReplyDeleteI don't have any sheet music (apart from old hymn books)
DeleteI'd probably paint them in a solid color. What would you store in them? Craft supplies?
ReplyDeleteYes I think craft supplies. Thinking of drawers solid, case patterned - or the other way round
DeleteCover them with a collage of seed packets?
ReplyDeleteThat's a fun idea . I could put mall garden bits in (plant labels.string etc)
DeleteI am sure you will craft a fabulous make over. They look a good size for storing all sorts of items. I look forward to see what you do with them.

DeleteWhat a fun project. I think I'd find some of the delightful fabric from your Great Stash with coordinating colors for each of the drawers. I'd want each drawer front to be a different fabric. Then I'd paint the sides and trim a terrific shade to tie it all together.
ReplyDeleteI'd not thought of using fabric. Great idea
DeleteI would paint them in various colours and reversing the drawers add some little knobs so that they look completely different.
ReplyDeleteI could use vintage buttons for the knobs
DeleteI'd probably use calendar pages I've loved and saved. Love the idea of buttongs for knobs!
ReplyDeleteHugs!
I have often used calendar pages for wrapping paper or envelopes.
DeleteWhat does it mean to reverse a drawer? JanF
ReplyDeleteIf you look at the picture, the drawers have a little cut out at the top where you put in your finger to pull drawer open. If you reverse the drawee and put it in the other way, there is no hole, so you need to fix a handle or knob
DeleteI recently revamped 2 sets and used wallpaper. This time I used all one sort, but in the past have used different samples. I've also used a vintage map on them in the past, and made a matching lampshade.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of matching lampshades!
