Bob had a delivery in a large cardboard box. Instead of the usual bubble wrap, there was lots of scrunched up brown paper. It seemed too good to shove in the paper recycling bin.
I spent a few minutes unravelling it, and then ironed it with a warm iron. I rolled it all up round a spare cardboard tube from the garage and now have 10 metres of wrapping paper [it’s 75cm wide]
I plan to use it for my Christmas presents – but haven’t decided yet whether to leave it plain and tie up with bright ribbon scraps – or decorate it with potato print stars and snowflakes – or tie with string and add cones, holly and ivy for a ‘rustic’ look.
Not that I have got any Christmas presents sorted out yet [it’s only April after all!]
I saved the last lot that we got and gave it to the school for the art supplies and they were thrilled with it. I much prefer this kind of packaging to the plastic bubbles or styrofoam peanuts that some companies seem to like to use. Bring back brown paper, I say! Excellent idea to use it for wrapping paper - now I am hoping I get some more before Christmas!
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of the rustic look! Hope you are well Angela x
ReplyDeleteWhat a gift! Some impressive recycling going on there, I think the ironing of the paper was a brainwave. I'm sure the presents will look great however you decide to embellish the paper - no rush to set the Xmas theme in April after all. x
ReplyDeleteWhat a good idea!
ReplyDeleteI much prefer this to the polystyrene chips that we used to get in packaging. Lol when I was a little girl I shoved a polystyrene chip u my nose and ended up in hospital. :D
Ang, please don't mention Christmas presents yet!
ReplyDeleteIt is also fantastic for paper mache should you ever feel the need. :)

Brilliant! I always wonder what to do with that and usually it sits in the box until I need to mail something. I never actually thought of ironing it. Great idea, Angela!
ReplyDeleteWhat a find! I did brown paper wrapped presents few years ago, drew Christmas trees on the paper and tied with hemp string...they looked lovely!

It would look great with a few stencils - or stamps......how I miss my John Bull printing set....wonder where it went.
ReplyDeleteI was really organised one year and bought all my presents for the next Christmas in spring and summer. The problem was remembering what I'd bought for who and where I'd put it !!
Soooo glad you haven't done your Christmas presents yet. Would be too much organisation for anyone. (Well me mainly)
ReplyDeleteStrawberry vote is for stamping!
ReplyDeleteBloomin heck, that's a lot of brown paper that could have been thrown away and has been rescued! Hurrah!x
ReplyDeleteAnother fun way to decorate it is with markers or wax crayons ... draw large stars all over, or other simple shapes, with random dots or circles in between. :)
