But I still have my huge church kettle. It holds 14 pints and will boil enough for 50 cups of tea. It appeared in the school play in 2018, when the Giant's wife carried it - but it is not really serving any useful purpose. It needs to go.
It has gone into my Etsy shop, along with my Big Brown Vicar's Wife Enamel Teapot [NB the teapot is big and brown, not the vicar or his wife]I am not sure if either of these will sell.
There are similar ones there - and I have priced mine slightly lower. After the excitement of five sales in the first week, everything has 'gone off the boil' a bit. I hope things will pick up again soon.
Do you sell on eBay or Etsy? and are you making mega-bucks?
I've sold on ebay but not on etsy. I must look into that. I thought etsy was just craft.
ReplyDeleteSo did I until recently. But whereas ebay is a short duration listing, and an auction (so you may make more than asking price) etsy is a fixed price, but longer duration.
DeleteI've not sold on Etsy but my friend Lara does. I know some sellers have had issues with their commission rates on both cost & postage but I don't know the details. We have massive teapots at my music camp. They are very useful!
ReplyDeleteSo far it is working OK for me. Well, it was LAST week! No takers this week yet.
DeleteEvery church, chapel and village hall kitchen must have had one of those teapots at some time. I bet no one makes them anymore
ReplyDeleteYou are right - they all have electric urns. We have a fancy plumbed-in instant boiler in the church kitchen here. It is a lot easier (and safer) to use than carrying/pouring a heavy kettle.
DeleteI hope you get lots of sales, this week, and maybe make enough to buy a new electric kettle! I have never sold anything online, myself, but, it's good that you are doing so. :)
ReplyDeleteAll sales are going into my New Spectacles Fund
DeleteI have been using eBay and Gumtree. I've done best on Gumtree where you can fix your price and it is free to advertise. I also say collection only and ask for cash on collection.
ReplyDeleteI didn't comment yesterday but have recently had the very same conversation with friends about kettles. I'm on my third new one since I moved to this house 7 years ago and friends are experiencing exactly the same problem. The last time I bought the cheapest one I could find and it's actually lasted the longest!
I haven't used Gumtree. This kettle issue seems to be quite widespread.
