Today I Am Sad

I make no secret of the fact that I voted to remain in Europe. I am incredibly sad that today marks the end of an important relationship.
I genuinely believe our nation will be the poorer for this decision - and mainland Europe also.
I was looking at the words for goodbye in different European languages - they seem to fall into two groups. The first commends the other to God - Adieu, Adios, Adeus...even our own Goodbye is a contraction of God-be-with-ye. And the second looks to a time of being together again Auf weidersehen, Au revoir, La revedere. May God be with us at this parting of the ways - and until we are united again.

  1. I am also sad. I think it is really distasteful that there are to be big celebrations in London. This is a decision which divided the nation in two and a vulgar show of 'Haha, we won,' is gross. We need to be with Europe especially with a complete nincompoop or rather degenerate troublemaker in power in both the UK and USA.

    1. Indeed. Nigel Farage's farewell speech in front of all the other MEP's was shameful and I only hope that the rest of Europe realise and hold on to the idea that most of us did not want this.

    2. I'm not sure the other European MEPs want it either

  2. You express in your words exactly how I feel today, a very sad day indeed.

    1. It must be especially hard for you. I remember visiting Belfast during The Troubles, when there were armed soldiers at the border, and again 40 years later when it was as simple as crossing the road. I would never want to return to the earlier state of affairs.

  5. Sad, upset and worried here.
Britain will not be united after Brexit day, I fear that the divisions - us and them, north and south, won and lost - will only get deeper.
Those who thought Brexit was the answer to their problems and voted for Boris Johnson have only given him carte blanche for more of the same.

    1. Let us commit ourselves to working to heal the divisions then...

  6. I like 'Mizpah'. Scotland voted to remain in Europe but now it's double-trouble for us with our sainted First Minister still harping on about a second indie-ref. Trouble brewing everywhere and it's making me very unsettled.

    1. Many of my Scottish friends say they are stressed by this. I'd forgotten about Mizpah (from Genesis 31) which roughly translates "God watch over us whilst we are apart"

  9. I, too, am sad. Such a waste, and I have always felt Brexit was fueled by greed, fear, and selfishness.
