We saw some crazy signage in Norfolk last week – here are a few of them I had to photograph to share with you
Bob was quite excited about the idea of an ‘emergency microphone’! [Castle Mall Shopping Centre, Norwich]
On the other hand, I was baffled as to how something could be both ‘character building’ and ‘micro-deadly’ [Argos, Dereham]
I looked and looked and didn’t see a single frog or tadpole! [The Plantation Garden, Norwich]
This one is amazing [seen in Costa Coffee, Riverside Retail Park, opposite Norwich Station] I may show this to my Year 6 pupils, and see what they make of such dire punctuation!
From everything you say about him, I can just see Bob with an emergency microphone. These are great.
ReplyDeleteYour photos put a smile on my face. I've read the last one several times. I'm still not sure what is says..... I'm laughing!
ReplyDeleteMicrophone??
ReplyDeleteLove the last one, could have been 'nicked' from a foreign place maybe??

I'm not using that washroom!!

The last sign is wonderful. One doesn't know whether to laugh or cry. :)
ReplyDeleteI guess they really wanted you to pause after reading the word "alarm" so they put in a period instead of a comma. Interesting signage.
ReplyDeleteI am always amused by that usage of "disabled" as well - you'd think they could have an alarm that actually worked! There is a branch of a well known chemist near us who have a sign asking one to "push the disabled button to open the door". So far I've restrained myself from asking when they are going to enable it so that it works...

Brilliant signs, atrocious punctuation!
ReplyDeleteThere's a sign at our local service station that says 'Caution slow ducks crossing.' Lovely Hubby always says "they should teach them to go faster".

Do the Slow Ducks live near that Heavy Plant which is sometimes crossing?
DeleteThese made me chuckle! Think my year 2s could do better with punctuation :)
ReplyDeleteHi Angela - I have noticed you have stopped visiting - have I offended you? x
ReplyDeleteSorry Mrs T- no, not offended at all - but the last few weeks were busy, and then we were on hols so I was commenting less than usual in blogland!!
DeleteThe final one is really terrible. I wonder if the people who produce the signs have a chuckle at the ineptitude of those who order them?
ReplyDeleteYou've got good material for a book there! That last one should be a good deterrent to unnecessary alarms.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the information
