Pooh looked at his two paws...

...he knew that one of them was the right, and he knew that when you had decided which one of them was the right, then the other was the left, but he never could remember how to begin

It is incredibly blustery here and I remembered Pooh and his blustery day. I have at least got all my washing dry in the wind [and done all the ironing!] Feeling a bit Eeyore-ish today though - I think maybe some toast-and-honey is called for.

“"Well," said Pooh, "what I like best -- " and then he had to stop and think. Because although Eating Honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn't know what it was called”

Oh the wind is lashing lustily
And the trees are thrashing thrustily
And the leaves are rustling gustily
So it's rather safe to say
That it seems that it may turn out to be
It feels that it will undoubtedly
It looks like a rather blustery day, today
It sounds that it may turn out to be
Feels that it will undoubtedly
Looks like a rather blustery day today

I really enjoyed reading A A Milne to my children when they were small. It saddens me that many children think W-the-P was created by Walt Disney. On Monday a new story comes out, by David Benedictus, featuring a new character - Lottie the Otter [a cricket playing female]. I am reserving judgement on this. Particularly since I read this quote "I loved doing it because there was no pressure, I started it off my own back," the author told Reuters. OK I know I can be as pedantic as Lynne Truss at times, but the correct expression is "off my own BAT" -  surely if he is introducing a cricketing character, he should know this?

  1. Well, that makes two of us being pedantic!
I grew up with W. the P. and hated hated the Disney version. Can still recite James James with no problem!

  3. we made bagels yesterday, and after looking at the recipe, Mark said to me - what's extract of malt? to which I replied 'It's the only thing Roo will eat!'
    I love the proper W.t.P
