One third of Pakistan has been submerged by the monsoon floods. I cannot imagine what that means. 1000 dead, 1600 injured, and thousands of homes and livelihoods destroyed.

Yes, it is overwhelming, isn't it? So many in need in so many places in the world.
ReplyDeleteIs Sri Lanka at risk of floods due to rising sea levels?
DeleteWe have many families from Pakistan at my school so no doubt will be v affected by the floods. I always remember doing a project in Year 7 or 8 Geography at school about nearish-by Bangladesh which was prone to flooding as it was very low-lying but to hear of Pakistan being a 3rd-covered is hugely sobering and devastating. If only governments would take Climate crisis seriously.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right, Kezzie
DeleteI've seen some before and after satellite images of areas of Pakistan, the flooding is beyond anything I could have imagined.
ReplyDeleteThere are just so many awful things happening in this world, and although I appreciate that it will be very hard for some, I do wish we could all quit moaning about rising fuel costs.
Maybe rising fuel costs will encourage folk to switch lights off, and turn their boilers down a few degrees, it would be a start to sorting out the climate crisis.
A tiny start admittedly, but a start all the same!
I do wonder how many people are going to make donations to help Pakistan though, so many are worried about their own finances for this coming winter.
Thank you Col. Your comment reminds me of two quotes .... "if you have food in your cupboard, clothes on your back and a place to sleep tonight, you are 85% richer than the rest of the world." ....and..."live simply, so that others may simply live"
ReplyDeleteSobering thoughts Angela. How can we moan about heat and rain when there is awfulness like that.
ReplyDeleteIt is so easy to lose perspective.
DeletePraying and donating to Shelterbox
ReplyDeleteWe complain about so many unimportant things in life. It's convicting when I watch the news and see things like this happening!
ReplyDeleteComplaining is easy - compassion is harder, isn't it?
DeleteIt is reported that Pakistan contributes less than 1% of global warming emissions. They are bearing the brunt and are justified in feeling very hard done by.
ReplyDeleteIndeed
DeleteI reminded myself how blessed I am when I was a little annoyed that I couldn't find something I wanted in the supermarket yet again. The suffering in the world is extreme even without floods and other disasters. When it comes to donating, I like to research charities as some have a bad habit of bombarding donors with unwanted gifts of all kinds and send repeated begging letters with recipient's name in large letters on the envelope! These are the ones I avoid.
ReplyDeleteYes, giving is important, and must be done with thought and care
