Last year, our good friend Brian was eighty and we had a Barn Dance at the Village Hall. This week it was the turn of his wife, Hilary. She opted for a quieter celebration – a family lunch party on Sunday. But Brian organised another event for her.
In the Carey Gardens Community where they live, an afternoon worship service is held once a month. This week it was followed by ‘fancy’ refreshments and cake [and not just the regular tea and biscuits] Tom, our Rector, led us in worship, and he told us all about seeing Her Majesty in the Cathedral last week – and spoke of the Majesty of God. We sung some good old hymns too. Then we sung “Happy Birthday” and Hilary cut her cake
As well as the residents, a few friends had been invited along [including Bob and myself] And when we left, instead of the Party Bag which children are often given after such events, we were presented with a plastic carrier bag of leeks! Our friend Bob M. has produced a splendid crop this year, and was happily sharing them out. I’ll be making another batch of leek and potato soup soon!
Brian and Hilary are such a loving, generous couple – it was a joy to be with them at the celebration.
CG is truly a caring place where God’s love is demonstrated daily.
What a lovely afternoon spent in happy company! Thankyou, friends!
how wonderful, a lovely celebration, and how fab to be given the leeks, what a wonderful and generous idea.
